WTJU & CJS Present Restroy, Apr 12

WTJU joins the Charlottesville Jazz Society in presenting Restroy at Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church in Charlottesville on Wednesday, April 12.  The concert will start at 8 pm. (Details)  For more information, call Gary at (434) 249-6191 or visit cvillejazz.org.

Led by composer and bassist Chris Dammann, Restroy dives into the intersection of modern jazz, improvisation and contemporary classical music. Restroy connects, dissects and evolves these traditions to forge a new space for communication and emotional involvement between musicians and listeners.
Restroy’s 2016 release, Saturn Return, is a collaboration born of Dammann’s desire to celebrate the unique voices of some of his favorite musicians. Featuring Catherine Monnes’s lyrical cello work and James Davis’ accomplished trumpet playing. Their next CD will include the special, expanded Chicago/Virginia hybrid version performing this concert. Expect an exciting focus on the interplay of electronics and live improvisation.

Along with Damman playing bass and electronics, the group will include Davis on trumpet, Monnes and Kevin Davis playing violin and cello, Tobin Summerfield on guitar, Nick Anaya saxophone, Mabel Kwan on piano, and John Niekrasz on drums.
