Ways to Volunteer

On-air music hosting (WTJU 91.1 FM & WXTJ 100.1 FM)

WTJU 91.1 FM is open to all, and we encourage applicants whose music taste is eclectic and beyond the mainstream.

UVA students can host on WTJU or WXTJ 100.1 FM, our all-student station. Most years, WXTJ accepts new applicants only at the beginning of fall semester.

Podcasting and Public Affairs

While WTJU’s on-air format is primarily eclectic music, we also air short-form news and human interest pieces.

WTJU also helps people bring their podcast ideas into creation via the Virginia Audio Collective. We provide budding podcasters with studio time & gear, distribution, training workshops, and a peer network of other podcast makers.

If you’re curious about our community and want to tell audio stories, fill out the Volunteer Application!

(No need to include a sample playlist if not applying for a music show.)

Behind-the-Scenes Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities exist for those who would love to be involved with WTJU but prefer not to host an on-air show:

  • Helping with community events
  • Organizational Tasks
  • Assisting at live performances
  • And more!

WTJU volunteers include UVA students, faculty, staff, and community members throughout Central Virginia. WTJU does not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on age, disability, marital status, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or veteran status.
