& The Talkbacks

on The Cosmic American Jamboree

Miss Tess & The Talkbacks will stop by The Cosmic American Jamboree on Thursday,July 5, for a visit with Lonesome George. Later that evening Miss Tess and the Boys will be performing at the Mockingbird in Staunton, VA.

Miss Tess is a Brooklyn-via-Boston-based performing songwriter and bandleader. She currently tours with a tight knit quartet complete with Raphael McGregor on lap steel, Danny Weller on upright bass, Matt Meyer on drums, and Tess on guitar and vocals. Similar to artists such at Tom Waits, Randy Newman, Madeleine Peyroux, or Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, Miss Tess draws inspiration from older styles of music, and uses those sounds in the service of her own personality. Miss Tess & The Talkbacks have been touring nationally for the last four years, and continue to maintain a rigorous performing schedule.

Miss Tess recently released “Live Across the Mason Dixon Line,” a double album featuring two live shows – one from the Regatta Bar in Cambridge, Massachusetts and one from Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia. This release proves to be a valiant effort by the band, Miss Tess & The Bon Ton Parade (now The Talkbacks), to blur the lines that once clearly dictated style, genre, and location. Stemming from the truest meaning of the word “Americana,” the band pushes their influences into the current music scene with something admirably fresh and soulfully timeless. The skilled musicianship of the quartet, combined with Tess’s heartfelt songwriting and powerful stage presence, creates a live experience that is state of the art.
