John D’earth stops by WTJU, Apr 28
Trumpeter/Composer John D’earth will stop by WTJU this Friday morning, April 27, around 11 to chat about a concert the following evening at UVA’s Old Cabell Hall. The UVA Jazz Ensemble, directed by D’earth, will present Natural Synergies with special guests Glen Whitehead and the Cuong Vu Trio on Saturday, April 29th, at 8:00pm in Old Cabell Auditorium.
Glen Whitehead and Cuong Vu will join John D’earth and the UVA Jazz Ensemble for their spring concert, featuring a performance of Matthew Burtner’s “Ecoacoustic Concerto (Eagle Rock)“, that combines electronic and acoustic music. This unique evening of music-making will include 100 audience members performing with the ensemble on pairs of rocks and will celebrate the interface of natural acoustic music, technology, and nature. The concert also celebrates eight graduating musicians who have made significant contributions to the band and will feature classic works from the modern big band tradition along with Burtner’s piece.
