Date: 09/26/2025
Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
This Friday, banjoist, composer, teacher and producer Wes Corbett will be going track-by-track through his brand new album ‘Drift’. A Washington state native, now based in Nashville, TN, Corbett’s career started as a teenager with fellow Bainbridge Islander and hammered dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman and continued with his move to Boston with Massachusetts-based bands The Bee Eaters and Joy Kills Sorrow. Along the way, he has toured with guitarist superstar Molly Tuttle as well as holding down a teaching faculty position at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. His current position, which he has held for the past five years, is with progressive bluegrass stalwart and Newgrass pioneer Sam Bush, one of the many Nashville-based acoustic super-pickers gracing this new all-originals album by Corbett.
Amongst many highlights, the album features a tune written on a very special banjo orginally belonging to the late great John Hartford, and borrowed from its current owner Béla Fleck, as well as the very first studio reunion of Sam Bush, Darol Anger and Todd Phillips since their work together on the groundbreaking album ‘Manzanita’ by guitarist Tony Rice.
You can find out more about the album at Bandcamp.com. Sunset Road airs Friday afternoons from 4-6 (eastern) at 91.1FM and online at wtju.net.
