   Notes: Rio de Janeiro-born singer Ilessi has released the 7" vinyl Atlânticas, featuring Taratá / Yatra-tá and Jarina (ou pedra-raiz). Both tracks showcase her unique voice and imaginative blend of Afro-Brazilian rhythms and poetic storytelling.
3. "Abebayehosh" - Meklit - single [Smithsonian Folkways: 2025]
   Notes: A Piece of Infinity, the latest album by Meklit, is an invitation to think, to love, and to groove. Celebrating the rich musical traditions of Ethiopia, the Addis-born, San Francisco based vocalist, songwriter, and composer molds folk tunes from a multitude of communities and cultures throughout Ethiopia into jazz-inflected fantasies imbued with warmth and reverence. The second single, Abebayehosh, is a song celebrating Ethiopian New Years, which is on Sept. 11.
4. "Temple" - Bill Brennan & Andy MacNeil - Dreamin in Gamelan [Riparian: 2025]
   Notes: Bill Brennan and Andy McNeill's forthcoming Dreaming in Gamelan is an engrossing release that folds McNeill's extensive studio expertise into Brennan's immersion in Sundanese Gamelan as a longstanding member of Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan.
5. "Biglisu stavuji" - Divanhana - Radio Sevdah [CPL-Music: 2025]
   Notes: Divanhana was formed at the beginning of 2009 by a group of students from Music Academy in Sarajevo. The band performs traditional music from Balkan in their new recognizable arrangements influenced by Jazz, Pop and Classical music. They especially focus on nurturing and presenting sevdah, the urban traditional music of Bosnia & Herzegovina. The album unfolds like a radio program, with jingles, commentary, and musical interludes linking past and present. Traditional Sevdalinkas appear alongside new original compositions, which Divanhana enrich with their signature mix of jazz, classical, folk, pop, and electronic influences. The band's new singer, Selma Droce, plays a defining role on this album.
6. "Lullaby" - Gralitsa - single [Gralitsa: 2025]
   Notes: Born from the deep roots of the Kostroma region, Gralitsa is both a living tradition and a restless explorer. They gather and preserve the ancient songs of their homeland, songs unearthed in countless field expeditions, songs kept alive in monthly concerts on their native soil.
7. "Sonfo" - Amadou & Mariam - single [Because: 2025]
   Notes: Amadou & Mariam join forces with Congolese star Fally Ipupa on 'Sonfo', an irresistible afropop ballad, setting the tone for their forthcoming and final album L'amour à la folie, out Oct. via Because Music. Though Amadou is no longer with us, the duo's timeless voices continue to carry a message of love and unity.
8. "Hyvanyon loitsu" - Tuuletar - single [Nordic Notes: 2025]
   Notes: This is Tuuletar - A chaotic, imperfect collective of colorful individuals, who share the same passion for curiosity. We do what we do because we love our language, we respect our roots and we are driven to explore. We dig and search, we conquer and fail, we stay and we leave but never do we stop moving, stop caring, stop respecting.
9. "La Negra Tomasa" - Estrellas de Buena Vista - Live in Havana [One World: 2025]
   Notes: Directed by the legendary tres player, Pancho Amat, founding member of Manguare, which would become one of the leading ensembles within the nueva trova movement, Estrellas de Buena Vista was formed to continue the tradition of Buena Vista Social Club. The band features 16 musicians, including 8 original members from Buena Vista Social Club.
10. "Dakan" - Orchestra Gold - Dakan [Orchestra Gold: 2025]
    Notes: Orchestra Gold unveils Dakan, a transcendent new album that explores the intertwined themes of destiny (dakan) and passion. Guided by the visionary vocals of Malian singer Mariam Diakite, Dakan is a sonic and spiritual journey rooted in tradition, driven by intuition, and lit ablaze with psychedelic energy. The band steps fully into its identity as a bridge between worlds: West African traditional music and heavy, hypnotic psychedelic rock.

   Notes: Blue Note did not release this LP until 61 years after its recording. The last Jazz Messengers recording with Hank Mobley, soon to be replaced by a young Wayne Shorter from Newark, NJ. From the liner notes: The session for "Just Coolin’" finds The Jazz Messengers’ saxophone chair in transition. The band had last recorded in October 1958 when they cemented their place in jazz history with the classic album "Moanin’" featuring Benny Golson on tenor saxophone. By July 1959, Blakey had recruited tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter who would remain a fixture of the band until 1964. The interim saw the return of Mobley, who was a charter member of The Jazz Messengers when the band first formed in 1954 and appeared on their debut recording "The Jazz Messengers At The Café Bohemia" in 1955. Mobley also filled an important role as the band’s resident composer. In fact, three of the six tracks on Just Coolin’ were written by Mobley: “Hipsippy Blues,” “M&M,” and “Just Coolin’.” However, five weeks after the studio session Blue Note founder and producer Alfred Lion decided to record the band again at the legendary club Birdland in New York City on April 15, 1959, capturing an assured live recording that included four of the six titles that had been recorded in March. The Birdland sessions ended up superseding the studio date when Lion instead released the two-volume live album "Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers At The Jazz Corner Of The World" later that year.
