WTJU 91.1 FM has received four 2026 Hometown Media Awards from the Alliance for Community Media. The national awards program was established to honor and promote community media – public/educational access television and community radio. In the Community Radio category, WTJU won:
- Best Educational Profile – Arts on Grounds (producer: Ben Larsen)
- Best Information Talk Show Series – Offstage, On-Air (hosts/producers: Brendan O’Donnell & Ben Larsen)
- Best Local Performance – Ramona and the Holy Smokes (artist: Ramona and the Holy Smokes, producer: Peter Jones, engineer: Ben Larsen)
- Best News Program – Charlottesville Community Engagement (host/producer: Sean Tubbs)
“From live music to artist conversations to local news, WTJU staff and volunteers create excellent radio every single day. The station truly serves as a cultural hub for the Charlottesville region and beyond. This recognition from the Alliance for Community Media is a wonderful acknowledgement of our community media mission,” said Peter Jones, WTJU Program Director.
Each year, ACM receives nearly 1,000 entries and gives awards to about 100 winners. Awards are presented to the most creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional formats, and move audiences.
