Rum Cove’s 45 RPM Label History: Tamla Records

By Rum Cove

This series is designed to give you a visual representation of the many labels that The Rum Cove features on his long running Soulful Situation broadcast.

Tamla Records of Detroit Michigan was a subsidiary of Motown Records. Founded in 1959, it was a huge success with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and The Marvelettes. This sleeve was used between 1960 and 1964. Fully one quarter of all Billboard R&B chart placings between 1962 and 1972 came from the Motown Corporation.
