Rum Cove’s 45 RPM Label History: Hi Records

By Rum Cove

This series is designed to give you a visual representation of the many labels that The Rum Cove features on his long running Soulful Situation broadcast.

Hi Records was formed in Memphis in 1958 by session players at Sam Phillips’ Sun Records. Co-owned by Joe Coghi (the name “hi” evolving from the last two letters of his second name), the company originally released rocking jazzy instrumentals by recording artists such as Bill Black’s Combo, Ace Cannon, and Willie Mitchell. This sleeve design was used from 1959 to 1966.
