Rum Cove’s 45 RPM Label History: Atlantic Records

By Rum Cove

This series is designed to give you a visual representation of the many labels that The Rum Cove features on his long running Soulful Situation broadcast.

Atlantic Records is considered the greatest of all US independent labels due to the extremely high quality of their output over a 25 year period.

Ruth Brown was their earliest big selling artist, followed by Ray Charles. The loss of Ray Charles to ABC Paramount in 1960 caused a downturn in sales. By the time this sleeve was used in 1964 for one year, only artists like Solomon Burke, Barbara Lewis, and Esther Phillips had improved the labels chart action.
