The Bob Bennetta Quartet will pull into Offbeat Roadhouse Friday night, September 1, for a concert which will also be broadcast on WTJU. The band’s music is Bill Evans and Duke Ellington-inspired ballads, straight-ahead jazz selections, with occasional blues, and Latin-inspired jazz.
This is a free event, open to all. You can also listen to Offbeat Roadhouse on the radio (91.1 FM) or on-line, and even video stream it at WTJU’s Facebook page or YouTube channel. But concerts always sound better with you as part of the studio audience.

The Bob Bennetta Quartet performs Bill Evans and Duke Ellington-inspired ballads, straight-ahead jazz selections, with occasional blues, and Latin-inspired jazz. The group features Bob Bennetta, Jim Howe, Larry Bisgaier, and Susanna Rosen.
For over 16 years, every Friday night, you could catch local legend Bob Bennetta at the piano at Fellini’s Restaurant. His musical heroes, Bill Evans and Duke Ellington, inform his own solo improvisation and accompaniment. He’s played up and down the East Coast for a half a century. He plays with Sentimental Journey Big Band, The Dick Orange Trio, and leads various combos under his own name.
One of Charlottesville’s favorite drummers, Jim Howe is an avid jazz musician comfortable playing some form of drum set or percussion in any music genre. He has played in musical groups ranging from a B3 duo to a 17-piece big band, and has played with Hod O’Brien, Stephanie Nakasian, Veronica Swift, Charles Owens, and John D’earth.
Larry Bisgaier’s super solid bass and searing guitar solos span blues, jazz, and rock genres. Larry has played with $5 Bacon, The Blowbirds, and currently plays with The Wavelength, The Wave Milor Trio, and The Bob Bennetta Trio, among others.
Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Susanna Rosen has toured with ACME Swing Mfg. Co. and Bayou Faux Pas. She regularly plays with the Bob Bennetta Trio, Jelly St. Jazz, and leads the New Orleans trad jazz combo Zuzu’s Hot 5.
