Koussevitzky@150: Koussevitzky’s Sibelius

By Ralph Graves

Composer Jean Sibelius proclaimed, “I have never heard my music better performed than under Dr. Koussevitzky.”

In this episode of Koussevitzky@150, Koussevitzky conducts the Boston Symphony in performances of Tapiola and Pohjola’s Daughter.

Also, perhaps we feature the greatest of all Sibelius recordings: Koussevitzky leads the BBC Symphony in Sibelius’s 7th.

Koussevitzky’s concertmaster Richard Burgin and violinist/author Harry Ellis Dickson recall Koussevitzky’s uncanny ability to identify with a composer and his music.

Koussevkitzky@150 airs Wednesdays at
9:00 am and 6:00 pm
