Just a Few Friends Observes the Week of Remembrance

By WTJU

This week¹s show of Just a Few Friends observes the Week of Remembrance, which runs from the Sunday before Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) through the following Sunday, this year falling on April 19.

We will observe the Week of Remembrance with music rooted in the culture of the people who were systematically killed during the Holocaust. In particular, we will play music that remembers the Jewish, Romani,
Ucrainian, Polish, and Russian victims of the holocaust.

We will play music that was written by composers while they were interned in the Terezin concentration camp, where outstanding Jewish writers, professors, musicians, and actors, mainly from Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Germany, gave lectures, concerts, and theater performances.

We will also play music that was written before and after World War II, to show the way that music crosses time and joins different cultures and histories.
