Grand Banks Presented by Third Rail at WTJU
By WTJU Rock
Date: 08/19/2023
Time: 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
WTJU Rock‘s new music series, Third Rail, presents Charlottesville experimental improv duo, Grand Banks, at the WTJU Stage. Grand Banks has been pushing the boundaries of ambient, drone, noise, and “textural improvisation” for 23 years.
This free event is open to all at 2244 Ivy Rd on August 19, 8 – 9 p.m. You can also listen on 91.1 FM, stream via wtju.net, and video stream on WTJU’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
Tyler Magill (Carry) and Davis Salisbury (Dais Queue) are the duo that is Grand Banks. Tyler is a long time WTJU Rock DJ on The Broadcasting System, Mondays, 2 – 4 p.m. Davis is a former WTJU Rock DJ, though has remained involved as a frequent co-host. Both are fixtures in the Charlottesville music scene as soloists, collaborators, and producers.
“Similar to meditation, when a Grand Banks show works, it unlocks a way of being that seems removed from space and time. There is only the immensity of the sound, with little distraction from Salisbury and Magill, who are fairly introverted in their performance styles. ‘It doesn’t look like we’re doing anything,’ says Magill. ‘We would play the same show whether there were people there or not.'” (Sarah Lawson, Cville Weekly, link below)
