Grammy winning artist Bronwyn will stop by WTJU this Friday afternoon to go track by track through her latest release, Rattlin’ Bones, out now on her own Sugar Petunia record label. You can can Bronwyn with her full band at the Southern in Charlottesville Wednesday evening, September 2. Bronwyn (formerly  Bronwyn Keith-Hynes), who spent her teens living here in the Charlottesville area, is a two time IBMA award winning fiddler and songwriter, and former member of both the Grammy-winning Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway, and the IBMA Momentum Award-winning bluegrass band Mile Twelve, which she cofounded coming out of her time at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

The new album, Rattlin’ Bones, is her third solo album, and the first to showcase her songwriting skills, something she determined was a path she wanted to pursue now she has embarked on her career as a solo artist. Musicians on the album include a veritable who’s-who of Nashville heavy hitters, including dobroist Jerry Douglas, guitarist Bryan Sutton, songwriter and vocalist Darrell Scott and her former bandmate in Golden Highway, mandolinist Dominick Leslie, as well as Nashville’s underground country music hero, Timbo. The album also features most of the musicians who have subsequently joined her road band, Tristan Scroggins (mandolin), Frank Evans (banjo), Larry Cook (bass)and new guitarist wunderkind Grant Dresnok, who will all be playing with her at the Southern on Wednesday evening, September 2.

Bronwyn will talk about her recent emergence as a songwriter, the process of recording the new album and the musicians involved, and will reminisce about her time growing up in Charlottesville (including being part of the Blue Ridge Irish Music School and busking on the downtown mall to pay for fiddle lessons and music camps!)…plus a whole lot more.
