You’re listening to WTJU Charlottesville. The Indie Short Film Series returns on Saturday, October 10th, 7pm at the Vinegar Hill Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia. For Arts This Week, we spoke with Ty Cooper.

Ty Cooper:
So my name is Ty Cooper. I’m the founder of the indie short film series. The indie short film series is an event we have three times a year, and we typically will screen seven to nine short films that’s international and domestic, and we invite the filmmakers, who can attend, to attend to speak on a panel immediately following the screening. That’s really in the gist what the film event is about. This is the only short film series, festival, project in the region. So, and I think Charlottesville is an amazing place to do this. We have a lot of artists who appreciate art and people who appreciate art, who not necessarily artists themselves. It’s a music town, but we have turned it to a film town with the Virginia Film Festival, the Indie Short Film Festival, as well as the Indie Short Film Series. So we have a lot of film stuff happening here in Charlottesville. We started the series in 2019. It’s at Vinegar Hill Theater, right off of the downtown mall, and the the mission of the Vinegar Hill Theater, which is you know under Lighthouse Studios, you know teach filmmaking to kids and workshops throughout the summer, workshop throughout the year, and camps and things of that nature. So, I think that it’s it’s a good place to be the home of the indie short film series.

Coco Ahn:
Now, what films from recent series have been memorable for you?

Ty Cooper:
Oh, I Have Your Teeth. I think that’s the title. Oh my goodness! It was so good. It’s so many. I have like in the past. I have Little Bird was really good. One Free Murder. It’s a German film. The production value in that was crazy. Um, that was a really good one. And then some. Then many others. It’s countless. I just came back from the Toronto International Film Festival. I came back from GenreBlast Film Festival and also the Richmond International Film Festival, where I saw a lot of shorts that you know I saw some shorts that I’m going to bring back here in March because the film series. This is the last series of the year, so I couldn’t bring those films to the series because the series were already had the film selected, if people want to see some good short films and you know come out support, you know you’re supporting the future of the film festival, the Indie Short Film Festival, which is you know has become a very significant film festival in Charlottesville, and I think you know support for this funnels into that. So I think it’s a great opportunity to come out and be part of the community, be part of your art community. You know, get to meet people and see stuff that you’re not going to, you know, normally see.
