Rosemary Cavalier:
You’re listening to WTJU Charlottesville. For Arts this Week, we chatted with Hannah Greene, the secretary for UVA’s new student organization, Art Market on the Lawn. She spoke with us about their inaugural art market coming to the lawn this weekend.

Hannah Greene:
So the Art Market at UVA is a group of students who want artists at UVA to have a space to sell their art. Before us, there really wasn’t a space for all the UVA artists to kind of combine together to sell their art, and we really just wanted to give them the space in order to do that, to give it to both other students at UVA and the greater Charlottesville community. We encourage anybody in the Charlottesville community or anybody at UVA to just stop by, even if you don’t buy anything, just come by, stop by, talk to the artist, kind of just see what the greater UVA artistic community is about, to just interact socially. Really, it’s a social space and a space just to get to know everybody and have a good time. I think a great thing about it is that you don’t need to be experienced person who sells art in order to apply. We are like projected to have workshops with artists who have sold world before to kind of like guide you through the process, but right now I think we do have some vendors that have never sold art before, and we have ones that have sold art before. So it really is, it’s both of them.

Rosemary Cavalier:
How many vendors do you have lined up right now?

Hannah Greene:
I think we have 12 right now, maybe 13. So it’s like it’s a good group. And if you didn’t have time to apply this semester, we’re gonna try to do it next semester too. So if you just want to like get ready or start thinking about it, it’s no problem that you didn’t do it this semester. There’s always more.
