You are listening to WTJU Charlottesville for Arts This Week we spoke to Hannah with Eastwood Farm and Winery about their upcoming Porch Nights event with Ty Burkhardt, which will be hosted at Eastwood Farm and Winery Thursday, August 20th, 5 to 8pm Thank you so much for being here with us, Hannah. Can you give us a spiel on what we should expect?
Hannah:
Porch nights has been a really great change of pace for us. We host a lot of live music throughout the week at the winery, but this is our first year of scheduling music on the porch, and there just is something about outdoor live music that just makes everything slow down. It’s such a nice time. We have Ty Burkhardt this week, who is so great. If you haven’t seen him play before, just his energy is so good. His vibe is so good.
Dana Douglas:
What exactly does it look like to attend a porch night?
Hannah:
When the music is outside on the side porch, when you walk up, you can hear the music as you walk up to the building, which is so nice too. It just sets the mood right away, and then we have a lot of seating. Our porch or veranda, whatever you want to call it, is big and wide. And there’s lounge sets and there’s tables. You can get wine. You can get food. There’s also plenty of space out there within range where you can hear the music perfectly well. More kids can run around. We have picnic tables with umbrellas, so you can really choose how you want to experience it. Lots of ways to enjoy it, for sure.
Dana Douglas:
So one thing that did kind of stand out from your website is that you guys encourage guests to bring their whole crew. Is this an event that has something for everybody?
Hannah:
Oh, absolutely. We’re a winery, of course. It’s in the name Eastwood Farm and Winery, but we are also a brewery, and we also make cider. We have juice flights for kids that are so cute, but we also have non-alcoholic wine and beer, and definitely something for everyone. We have water bowls for your dog, whatever you need.
Dana Douglas:
If you put yourself into the shoes of the attendees and not the person facilitating. What is your favorite part of porch night events?
Hannah:
I like it because it just feels so relaxed to come out and to be able to sit and find a spot and just like know you’re going to be there for a couple hours and settle into this space and have this music right there, and you know, be able to see the musician. But you really do feel like very close, like you’re in the room with them. But it is-it’s just such a nice experience, and it is one where I definitely recommend getting there early, staying the whole time, kind of a thing.
