What is Family Radio Day?
Zoe Krylova 00:30
WTJU Family Radio Day is an opportunity for families to step into the WTJUstudios. We have a story time with DJ Al. We have a music making activity with MIMA artists Kim and Jimbo Carrie, and we have an audio activity with one of the WTJU audio engineers, so it’s like a fun play date at the radio station.

Why did you decide to create an event like this?
Zoe Krylova 01:01
Well, at a time when streaming services are so popular and younger families and children are not really connected to the radio as much, it’s an opportunity to introduce them to radio. It’s an opportunity for children to see a DJ in the broadcast studio and make that connection with what they might hear on the radio in their parent’s car. Everyone has a lot of fun, and the feedback has really been very positive. Everyone just seems really happy with the activities here. It was really amazing seeing the children meet one of our DJs, Sandy Snyder, one morning when she was doing a show in the studio. And one of the kids said, “I heard you on the radio on the way here!” And just to see them make that connection was really what it’s all about. So upcoming is January 26th from 10 to 11:30am, and then every fourth Sunday through March. There is a registration if you just go to wtju.net/familyradioday, there is a link to the registration there, and it’s a free event. We just like to get a head count.
