Rum Cove’s 45 RPM Label History: Checker Records

By Rum Cove

This series is designed to give you a visual representation of the many labels that The Rum Cove features on his long running Soulful Situation broadcast.

Checker Records was a subsidiary of the famous Chicago Blues label, Chess, founded in 1952, featuring Doo-Wop, Blues, Rock and Rol,l and Rhythm & Blues.

Recording artists Bo Diddley and Little Walter called the label home in the 50s but by the time this sleeve was used between 1963 and 1965 the newer Soul styles were coming to the fore with releases by Little Milton, Fontella Bass, and Gene Chandler.
