Offstage On-Air with Matthew Cataldi

By WTJU

Date: 03/26/2023

Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Offstage, On-Air is a weekly show highlighting central Virginia’s vibrant classical music community. Each week you’ll hear conversations with local classical musicians, learn about upcoming concerts, and enjoy artist-curated playlists. Tune in Sunday from noon to 1:00pm here on WTJU (91.1 FM and streaming at wtju.net). This week’s guest is Matthew Cataldi, Director of Piano Studies and Assistant Professor of Piano at Radford University in Radford, Virginia.

We’ll talk with Matthew about and hear excerpts from his fascinating new album, 24 Preludes in Popular Style After Chopin, which was released in December on Albany Records. In this record, Matthew has created an arrangement of each of Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Op. 28, in a different popular music style, from samba to bebop to tango. We’ll listen to great recordings of Chopin’s original Preludes alongside Matthew’s inventive and playful arrangements.
