Darryl Carter Interview 8/20/2012

By Lewis Reining

Chicago native Darryl Carter moved to Memphis in 1964 and immediately started working for Chip’s Moman at American Sound Studios as an engineer and songwriter. He also produced and wrote at Stax /Volt and then moved on to Willie Mitchell’s Royal Recording Studio where he wrote and produced many more great southern soul recordings. A little known backroom Rhythm &Blues operator, he brings to light many interesting stories from Memphis’ great soul era.
