About: Participants will learn the fundamentals of audio storytelling: field and studio recording, writing for the ear, developing story ideas, editing audio, sounding natural behind a mic, and more.

The course is open to all ages, from high school students to senior citizens. No previous experience is required. Enrollment is capped at 12 participants to ensure individualized, hands-on support in your skills building.

Dates: The class meets via Zoom for six sessions: Wednesdays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., February 24 – March 31. Participants should work on their audio productions between classes.

Cost: Course fee is $30, which covers the cost of your Adobe Audition software license. All other equipment and software are provided at no charge for the duration of the class. Fee waiver is available in case of financial need.

About the instructor: WTJU’s Community Voices class is taught by Lewis Reining, WTJU audio & digital producer since 2012. Lewis has won multiple awards from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and Intercollegiate Broadcasting System for his audio production work. He helped develop WTJU’s Virginia Audio Collective and was the lead producer for the audio drama series The Perfectly Circular Rock. Lewis leads WTJU’s summer youth radio camps and coordinates the station’s educational initiatives.
