Virginia Festival of the Book participants Scott Barretta and Preston Lauterbach stop by WTJU, March 18
Scott Barretta and Preston Lauterbach will stop by WTJU on Monday afternoon, March 19, during Soulful Situation to chat with Rum Cove. Soulful Situation is heard each Monday afternoon from 12-2 on WTJU (91.1 FM, and streaming worldwide at wtju.net).
Scott Barretta, a contributor to Voices of Mississippi, is a sociology instructor at the University of Mississippi, a writer and researcher for the Mississippi Blues Trail, a radio host, and the former editor of Living Blues. He is also an alumnus of UVa. Scott will be part of Southern Blues and Folklife Rekindled: Voices of Mississippi, a program taking place at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center on Thursday, March 21. He will also be at The Bridge PAI on Monday evening, March 18, for the showing of a documentary film, Shake “Em On Down: The Blues According to Fred McDowell.
Preston Lauterbach, author of Bluff City, is a former Virginia Humanities fellow who prefers cats to dogs. He is also the author of Beale Street Dynasty and The Chitlin’ Circuit, a Wall Street Journal and Boston Globe book of the year. He is a former visiting scholar at Rhodes College and he lives near Charlottesville, Virginia. Preston will be on a panel Saturday, March 23, at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center discussing Complicated Lives in the Civil Rights Era.
