On Thursday, December 3, 7 – 8 p.m., join WTJU for Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night, a luminous soundscape played by the audience on mobile devices & bluetooth speakers as we walk through the streets of Charlottesville’s downtown.

Be a part of this socially distanced, unique holiday-season celebration. We meet at IX Art Park (522 2nd Street SE), then promenade along a carefully chosen route through downtown Charlottesville, creating a unique mobile sound sculpture which is different from every listener’s perspective. Masks and social distancing are required to participate.

Advance registration is requested. Sign up here:

Unsilent Night is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music. Together all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. The fact that the participants play different “parts” simultaneously helps create the special sound of the piece. Participants carry bluetooth speakers, boomboxes, or anything that amplifies music, and simultaneously start playing the music.

More than 130 cities around the world host local editions of Unsilent Night. Read more here.
