This February on The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour

Are you a fan of film music? Then be sure to tune in to Charlottesville Classical every Thursday morning at 9 AM ET for The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour, an hour of great film music presented by WTJU classical host Ken Nail. Here’s what’s coming up in February on The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour.

February 1 and 8: Rachel Portman

British composer Rachel Portman will go down in the history books as the first woman to win an Oscar for Best Original Score (Emma, 1996). But she’s no one-hit wonder. This edition of the show will feature music from several of her films, including Julia, The Cider House Rules, Mona Lisa Smile, and more.

February 15: Before Star Wars – The Early John Williams

John Williams burst into the pop-culture landscape with the massive hit, Star Wars. But his catalog of scores extends back to well before this 1977 hit. In this edition of the show we’ll sample John Williams’ early film and television scores as you hear his musical career in the movies take shape.

February 22: Head ‘Em Off at the Past – Classic Film Music from Westerns

Some of our most beloved movies and most beloved film scores come from westerns. In this show, Ken Nail plays cuts from such classic westerns as Shane, The Magnificent Seven, The Cowboys, and more.

February 29: The Oscars – 2000-2009

The Academy Awards are coming soon! In this edition of The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour, we’ll take a trip back in time and sample some Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning film scores from 2000 through 2009. Sit down and enjoy some great music from Howard Shore, Rachel Portman, John Williams, and more.
