“Third Rail” presents Free Pony, live on the WTJU Stage

Date: 11/18/2023

Time: 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

WTJU Rock‘s “Third Rail” is excited to present Charlottesville post-punk quartet, Free Pony, to the WTJU Stage on Saturday, November 18, 8 – 9 p.m. This free event is open to all at 2244 Ivy Rd. You can also listen on 91.1 FM, stream via wtju.net, and video stream on WTJU’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

Formed in early 2020 as an outlet for four long standing area musicians to start playing together, originally to prepare a Gang of Four set for that year’s doomed Mockstar’s Ball, Free Pony began instead to craft their own music.

Stepping into the front-man position for the first time in his mid 30’s, Colin Steers – also known for his work in We Are Star Children and Body for Karate – rejoined Brian Wilson (The Can-Do Attitude, Matt Curreri and the Ex-Friends), along with Adam Daniel and Travis Miller, who had been playing together as the instrumental surf-rock trio, The Urchins, to write and release new material together.

Their debut EP, “Or Best Offer,” released in Sep. 2023, was recorded and produced by the band in their basement practice space, capturing all of the instruments live in single takes. Check it out here: freepony.bandcamp.com/album/or-best-offer

Free Pony’s rock influences span eras – from Television and Devo to Wolf Parade and LCD Soundsystem – as their music leans forward, sonically, and stresses about the future, thematically.

Four dads with day jobs who have decades of pent up rock energy to release.

Third Rail is supported locally by Lucky Blue’s Restaurant & Bar. Enjoy good times and great tunes for lunch, dinner, and late night at Lucky Blue’s on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.
