Sophie Wellington Day (or afternoon at least) on WTJU, May 12

Virginia native and recent Berklee College of Music graduate Sophie Wellington will stop by WTJU Thursday afternoon, May 12.  Not only will she perform live at The Stage, but Sophie will also go track by track through her new album, Roving Jewel. Sophie is currently touring in support of the release, and will be at The Front Porch on Friday evening, May 13.  Folk & Beyond airs Thursday afternoon from 4-7 (edt) at 91.1 FM, and streaming at wtju.net. You can watch her live session at WTJU’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Sophie Mae Wellington is a Boston-based musician who draws inspiration from the deep communities of traditional music and dance. Originally from Staunton, VA, she is an old time fiddle player, percussive dancer, and jazz vocalist. These creative art forms have brought her to Boston where she is studying vocal improvisation at Berklee College of Music, set to graduate in the fall of 2021.

Sophie is a dynamic performer. Whether she’s weaving her voice through lavish jazz melody and harmony, driving fiddle tunes, or intricately flatfooting Southern Appalachian rhythms, Sophie engages audiences with a sophisticated musical adventure.
