Gaelynn Lea at Offbeat Roadhouse

By WTJU

Date: 10/24/2025

Time: 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Gaelynn Lea will pull into Offbeat Roadhouse Friday night, October 24, for a concert which will also be broadcast on WTJU. Gaelynn Lea got her big break when she won NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2016. Since then, she has been captivating audiences around the world with her haunting original songs and traditional fiddle tunes, and has collaborated with Michael Stipe, The Decemberists, and even Pigface. Gaelynn will be putting on a colloquium earlier that day at the University of Virginia. You can find that at the UVA Music website and more about Gaelynn Lea at her website.

During the third set, composer Molly Joyce will perform. Molly is a composer and performer whose work explores disability as a creative source across composition, performance, collaboration, and research. Described by The Washington Post as “one of the most versatile, prolific and intriguing composers working under the vast new-music dome,” her music has also been praised by The New York Times for its “serene power” and by Vulture as “unwavering…enveloping.” Molly and Gaelynn, in partnership with Adrian Anantawan, helped to develop the Music Inclusion Ensemble. You can find out more about Molly at her website.

This is a free event, open to all. You can also listen to Offbeat Roadhouse on the radio (91.1 FM) or on our web player, and even video stream it at WTJU’s YouTube channel. But concerts always sound better with you as part of the studio audience.  WTJU is located at 2244 Ivy Rd in Charlottesville, right next door to Vivace.  There is plenty of parking, both in our lot as well as the Sentara lot next door. You can check out the Offbeat Roadhouse schedule to see concerts past, present, and future.
