Jim Howe Trio at Offbeat Roadhouse

Date: 01/05/2024

Time: 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Drummer Jim Howe and his Jazz Trio will pull into Offbeat Roadhouse Friday night, January 5, for a concert which will also be broadcast on WTJU. We will be treated to an hour of free improvisation.

This is a free event, open to all. You can also listen to Offbeat Roadhouse on the radio (91.1 FM) or on-line, and even video stream it at WTJU’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.  But concerts always sound better with you as part of the studio audience.

Offbeat Roadhouse is supported locally by Ting – Bringing light-speed internet to homes and businesses.

The Jim Howe trio has been practicing and recording free improvisation over the past year. While the members are primarily known as jazz musicians, their roots are far more varied and free improv allows all of these influences to come together in unique and unpredictable ways. This Offbeat Roadhouse performance will be an exceptional musical experience of free improvisation that is not to be missed.

The trio consists of Royce Campbell (guitar), Jim Howe (drums/percussion) and Bob Bowen (bass). Royce Campbell is a leading guitarist and composer in the jazz world, having toured with Henry Mancini for over 19 years and recorded nearly 35 albums as soloist or band leader. Jim Howe is a well-known Charlottesville jazz drummer who is comfortable playing in any music genre, and is founder of the highly successful Possum’s Store music venue in Madison, Virginia. Bob Bowen is a well-known bassist throughout Virginia and beyond, known for his versatility and virtuosity in any musical setting on both the upright and electric bass.
