Offstage On-Air with Michael Slon

Date: 12/04/2022

Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Offstage, On-Air is a weekly show highlighting central Virginia’s vibrant classical music community. Each week you’ll hear conversations with local classical musicians, learn about upcoming concerts, and enjoy artist-curated playlists. Tune in Sunday from noon to 1:00pm here on WTJU (91.1 FM and streaming at wtju.net). This week’s guest is Michael Slon, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at the University of Virginia, where he leads the UVA University Singers and Chamber Singers, and also guest conducts the Charlottesville Symphony. He is also the Music Director of the Oratorio Society of Virginia.

Michael will be busy over the next few weeks leading multiple holiday concerts across Charlottesville. On December 3 and 4, he conducts the UVA University Singers and the Charlottesville Symphony in their annual Family Holiday Concerts at Old Cabell Hall. These concerts are full of old and new holiday favorites performed by a full orchestra and choir.

On December 6, he’ll lead the 55th annual Messiah Sing-In at UVA, inviting the Charlottesville and University communities to come together to perform Handel’s masterwork alongside members of UVA’s choral community and an orchestra.

Finally, on December 17 Michael brings the 80-member Oratorio Society of Virginia to The Paramount Theater on Charlottesville’s downtown mall for their annual Christmas at the Paramount concert, which this year includes the first cantata from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
