Juneteenth recognized on Atlantic Weekly I, June 19

By WTJU

This week the US Senate took a big step to make Juneteenth a national holiday.  Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery and in recent years it has become a day to recognize the historical and cultural contributions of African Americans.   This week’s Atlantic Weekly Pt 1 is inspired by an article in the Folk Alliance of Black folk artists deserving more exposure.  The special episode will focus on contemporary Black folk artists with styles ranging from bluegrass and blues to old timey and progressive folk.  They will highlight Sweet Honey in the Rock’s annual Juneteenth shows (streaming live Sat) and sample the highly anticipated Amythyst Khia record Wary & Strange that comes out this week.

Atlantic Weekly airs Saturday mornings from 8-10 (edt) on 91.1 FM, streaming at wtju.net, or by asking your smart speaker to “Play WTJU.”
