The Jazz Messenger Delivers Twice, March 8

To kick off the Jazz Messenger’s return to a three hour program each Friday morning, host Brian Keena welcomes in two great guests.  During the first hour, Terri Allard will stop by just after 9 to chat about Albemarle High School Jazz Band’s 2nd Annual ‘Swing into Spring’ Benefit Concert.  The concert will take place at Jefferson Theater on Sunday, March 10, and feature the award-winning ensemble which will be joined by a roster of local musicians Including Adar, John D’earth, Charles Owens, Terri Allard, Bill Allard, Stephanie Nakasian, Davina Jackson, Taylor Barnett, Barbara Edwards, John Kelly, Madeline Holly Sales and Berto Sales, Ryan Lee, Lydie Omesiette, Masia Jackson, and Michael Elswick.  Proceeds will support the high school Jazz Band and their upcoming trip to the prestigious Swing Central Jazz Competition in Savannah, GA.
Then at 11 am, fresh from his appearance with the surviving members of the Allman Brothers Band, guitarist/vocalist Randy Johnston will stop by to discuss his group’s concert at Cville Coffee on Saturday evening, March 9. Special guest with the group for the concert will be renowned D.C. harmonica player and vocalist Bruce Ewan, whose recent album “Bluesero” combined Blues, Jazz, Argentinian, and Brazilian music to critical acclaim.   Rounding out the group with be organist Jonah Kane-West, and drummer Drex Weaver.  Ewan might even call in during the radio program to chat with Randy and Brian.
