Interview with Mike Murphy, Interim City Manager
Twenty-five officers left the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) in 2018, up from an average of ten to twelve officers in recent years.
WTJU’s Bowie Duncan spoke with Mike Murphy, Interim City Manager for the City of Charlottesville, about why officers are choosing to leave CPD and what the city can do to counter the trend. Mr. Murphy recognizes that some of CPD’s retention issues lie in low wages relative to surrounding areas and tension following the Unite the Right Rally in August of 2017. Listen for more.
