Brittany Haas and her Impromptu Sessions No. 1, March 24

Fiddler Brittany Haas (Hawktail, Crooked Still) was hanging out one evening last year with two musicians, Mike Gaisbacher and Paul Kowert, and there happened to be a banjo and two upright basses off to the side.  She picked up the banjo as Mike and Paul grabbed the other instruments, and an impromptu session happened.  They called a friend, Chris “Critter” Eldridge, and he brought over some recording gear. For the next three days, the trio recorded fiddle tunes which Brittany transcribed to banjo as they went along. That album, Impromptu Sessions No. 1, was released March 18 on Padiddle Records.

Coming up this Thursday afternoon, March 24, Brittany will go track by track through the album on WTJU. Folk & Beyond airs Thursday afternoon from 4-7 (edt) at 91.1 FM, and streaming at wtju.net.
