Gangstagrass, no strangers to WTJU, are putting on a special 90 minute concert at the Stage, and you are invited to part of the studio audience! This is a free event, open to all. You can also listen on the radio (91.1 FM) or on our web player, and even video stream it at WTJU’s YouTube channel. But concerts always sound better with you as part of the studio audience. WTJU is located at 2244 Ivy Rd in Charlottesville, right next door to Vivace. There is plenty of parking, both in our lot as well as the Sentara lot next door. Do please note that you should not park in the lower lot by Shenandoah Joe and Pico Wraps as they enforce towing.
Gangstagrass, a dynamic and diverse collective of musicians, shatters preconceived notions surrounding the worlds of Bluegrass and Hip-Hop music. With a unique fusion of banjo and fiddle melodies seamlessly interwoven with hip-hop beats and brilliant lyricism, the group creates a musical phenomenon that bridges communities that often exist in separation. Their music transcends historical genre limitations, transforming what might be considered “opposing styles” into a cohesive and irresistible celebration. Where banjo and fiddle meet verbal acrobatics from skilled MCs while high lonesome harmonies flow over block-rockin’ beats, Gangstagrass gets people of all ages and backgrounds up and dancing together.
