DJ Malpaso’s 2025 in Review

Those who know me well know that I have a severe allergy to superlatives! So, you’ll forgive me if I am physically incapable of calling this Malpaso’s “Best Of” 2025. Let’s just say that 2025 produced all of the ingredients in this lovingly assembled recipe for A Very Malpaso Experience™!
In no particular order:
1. Lady Gaga – Mayhem
2. Model/Actriz – Pirouette
3. Perfume Genius – Glory
4. Suede – Antidepressants
5. David Byrne – Who Is the Sky?
6. Oneohtrix Point Never – Tranquilizer
7. Marie Davidson – City of Clowns
8. Bryan Ferry & Amelia Barratt – Loose Talk (there’s also an instrumental version)
9. Scissorgun – Scream If You Wanna Go Faster
10. Richard Dawson – End of the Middle
On the local music front, I want to give props to Jaguardini (Ivan Christo) for his synthwave passion project, Temper (featuring powerful accompanying vocals and songwriting contributions by Mickey Sharp). I will also give a vigorous nod to two live concert experiences I was privileged to attend right in my own backyard this year: St. Vincent bringing her All Born Screaming tour to the Ting Pavilion, and Aimee Mann performing the entirety of Lost in Space at the Jefferson for the album’s 22nd & 1/2 anniversary.
