Country Spotlight closes with Linda Martell

All good things must come to a close, and so we say a fond farewell to Oliver the Kid’s Country Spotlight series this Wednesday as he focuses his light on Linda Martell, the first commercially successful black female artist in the country music field and the first to play the Grand Ole Opry. As one of the first African-American country performers, Martell helped influence the careers of future Nashville artists of color.

Farewell Oliver the Kid (until next month’s Folk Marathon anyway), and we will see you down that country road…
