The Charlottesville-Albemarle Labor Council will hold its first annual “Labor in the Park” event on Sunday, May 4th, from 2 to 4 p.m. at IX Art Park. Several labor unions from the Charlottesville area will be on hand to represent workers at UVA, bus drivers and mechanics with CAT, and workers at county public schools. This free event will feature live music, food trucks, kids’ activities, a raffle with labor-union-related prizes, and opportunities to meet union members and learn how to support their worker advocacy. The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia has announced its spring 2025 slate of exhibitions as it celebrates in 90th year. Included is a showing entitled O’ Powa O’ Meng: The Art and Legacy of Jody Folwell. Jody Folwell is a contemporary potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, who is widely considered among the most significant and influential clay artists of her generation. O’ Powa O’ Meng, meaning “I came here, I got here, I’m still going” in the artist’s Tewa language, features 20 works by the artist that span the breadth of her groundbreaking career. The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia has announced its spring 2025 slate of exhibitions as it celebrates in 90th year. Included is a selection of more than 80 Torah pointers -- called "yads." A yad is used in Jewish synagogue services when reading aloud from the Torah. It takes the place of the reader’s hand as it glides along the text. The exhibition includes pointers made of gold, silver, pearls, and jewels as well as badger hair bristles, a whale’s tooth, porcupine quills, whitefish vertebrae, recycled cans, and even a skateboard.
