Podcasting Workshops: Free & open to the Public!

Media producer Michael Moxham will be teaching a series of podcasting workshops, free and open to the public. No previous experience is required and the workshops can be taken individually or as a series. The series will be held in the GLab of the Robertson Media Center, housed in UVA’s Clemons Library at 164 McCormick Road in Charlottesville.
Workshops:
September 16th and October 7th | Podcasting Workshop Part 1: “Starting a Podcast”
This hands-on workshop will guide participants through the process of developing a podcast concept and transforming an idea into a sustainable show. Using a podcast planning blueprint, attendees will actively refine their topic, audience, format, and episode structure while learning the planning processes used by professional producers. Participants will also explore the professional equipment and software available through RMC, along with production spaces and support services, and leave with a roadmap for creating their first episode.
Sept 23 and October 14 | Podcasting Workshop Part 2: “Recording a Podcast”
This hands-on workshop introduces the fundamentals of recording professional-quality audio for podcasts using the professional equipment and software available through RMC. Participants will work directly with professional microphones, recorders, headphones, and studio setups while practicing interviewing, hosting, and microphone techniques used by professional producers. Through guided recording exercises, attendees will gain practical experience capturing clean, engaging audio and learn the workflows used to produce high-quality podcast recordings.
Sept 30 and October 21 | Podcasting Workshop Part 3: “Editing Your Podcast”
This hands-on workshop focuses on the editing and post-production process that transforms raw recordings into polished podcast episodes. Participants will work with the professional equipment and software available through RMC to organize recordings, remove mistakes, improve pacing, balance audio levels, and prepare content for distribution. Along the way, attendees will learn post-production techniques used by professional producers and gain experience creating a finished audio piece from recorded material.
About the Instructor:
Michael Moxham is a Media Producer at WTJU and supports audio production, equipment, and the Sound on Grounds podcast network through the Robertson Media Center (RMC). A longtime audio engineer and content producer, he has experience in podcasting, radio production, live sound, recording, and digital media. Michael works with students, faculty, and community members to develop audio storytelling skills and produce high-quality audio content.
