WTJU wins six national and state awards for radio excellence

By Nathan Moore

June marks the start of summer 2025, as well as awards season for broadcasters. WTJU has just won six awards from the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) and the Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB).

“We have such a good team of volunteers, students, and staff at WTJU, and we live in such a vibrant place for music, arts, and culture. With those ingredients, we sure do make some tasty radio and podcasts,” said Nathan Moore, WTJU General Manager. “It is buoying to receive award recognition for a few examples of WTJU’s altogether terrific work.”

Sister Revolutions is a public history documentary that explores the legacy of the American and French Revolutions through the sister city relationship between Charlottesville and Besançon, France. The episode “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” won the Best Documentary category from both ACM and VAB. This summer, WTJU is releasing a follow-up podcast Founding Footprints. In partnership with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, this podcast will include companion travel itineraries for visitors to the Charlottesville area.

WTJU also netted the Best Radio Personality award from VAB for Late Night With Ike, hosted by Ike Anderson. Late Night with Ike is a Throwback Thursday show featuring the best in funk, soul, hip hop, and R&B, airing Thursday nights from 9 – 11 p.m.

WTJU also won the following awards from ACM:

Original Film/Drama: She Wrote Plays: “A Woman’s Honor” – New takes on works from a century ago by forgotten women playwrights. She Wrote Plays, an audio drama series was produced in a collaboration between WTJU and UVA’s Drama Department.
