Employment, Equal Opportunity, & Diversity

WTJU follows the University of Virginia’s policies on equal opportunity and non-discrimination, which can be found HERE.

WTJU undertakes one or more of the following initiatives on an annual basis:

Each year since 2015, WTJU’s summer and academic year interns have represented diverse backgrounds and genders. These interns engaged in meaningful professional experience, including audio production, community engagement, and administration work. Attendees at our summer youth radio camps also represented diverse backgrounds, genders, and ethnicities.

Each September since 2017, WTJU has organized and hosted the Charlottesville-Albemarle Black Business Expo, in conjunction with our fall concert series. This event draws dozens of businesses and hundreds of attendees for a day of workshops, networking, and celebration.

In spring 2021, WTJU developed a unit plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion, utilizing the University of Virginia’s Inclusive Excellence framework. Per the requirements of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, WTJU annually reviews its practices to fulfill station’s commitment to diversity. WTJU’s Inclusive Excellence Plan is posted online here: WTJU Inclusive Excellence Plan
