   Notes: An accompanying theme throughout the music is water - vital to the isles' existence - its movement, waves, and presence. While these elements may seem influenced by Western art music, they also reflect the influence of traditional Sri Lankan music genres which are part of Tanya Ekanayaka's heritage.

   Notes: Gabriela Martina is a vocalist, composer, and bandleader who grew up in Switzerland. She spent 13 years living and working in the US (Boston & New York) learning from the people who made Jazz (among many other styles of music originating from the US) as important of an art form as it is today. This is her smaller musical formation (piano/voice duo) together with the incredible pianist with Ukrainian roots, Maxim Lubarsky.

   Notes: In honor of revolutionary composer Kurt Weill's 125th birthday this year, acclaimed singer & actress Ute Lemper today announced her new album, Pirate Jenny, out April 25 via The Audiophile Society. Nearly 40 years after her breakthrough album Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill, she now presents fresh, electric re-imaginings of Weill's songs, whose critiques of societal injustices and corruption still ring true today.
7. "Paseo de las Misiones" - Rita Donte - Ritual [Ansonia: 2025]
   Notes: A fierce declaration of the artist's place in the world, Ritual is a deep embrace of the sounds that have carried her from her native Cuba to her current home in Mexico. The album is a high-vibrational dance into a reverent future, mixing traditional Cuban sounds with sounds of Mexico that have guided her since arriving in the country over a decade ago.
8. "Journey Through Life" - Femi Kuti - Journey Through Life [Partisan: 2025]
   Notes: Throughout his prolific career, Femi Kuti has stood as a powerful voice for justice, carrying forward the revolutionary Afrobeat legacy pioneered by his father, Fela Kuti. Known for his unflinching critiques of political corruption and social inequality, Femi's heady mix of funk, jazz and highlife has always been a tool for resistance and change.
9. "Gara" - Songhoy Blues - Heritage [Transgressive: 2025]
   Notes: It's clear that the band from northern Mali are in a new frame of mind. They move into a more acoustic, creative re-imagining of the 'desert blues' style that brought them to world fame, infused with the ethereal sounds of various traditional instruments.
10. "Boulanga" - Samba Toure - Baarakelaw [Glitterbeat: 2025]
    Notes: At the end of 2023, Samba recorded Baarakelaw in Mali's capital city of Bamako. Making the album was particularly difficult because the recording took place at a time when the Malian energy crisis, which the country had been experiencing for over a year, was getting much worse. It had become impossible to work in a traditional studio, as none of them had generators and electricity was only available for a few hours a day.
11. "Ya Gaus Ya Meeran" - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Party - Chain of Light [Real World: 2024]
    Notes: The "lost album" - named 'Chain of Light' - was discovered in the tape archives of Peter Gabriel's Real World Records, the label that signed Khan in 1989 and released a series of universally acclaimed albums with him throughout the 1990s.
12. "Besame Mucho" - Triada - De Versiones y Alma [Verve: 2025]
    Notes: At the ripe age of 19, Diamela, Aylen and Julia intonate classics with a perceived lived experience and ease that far surpasses their years. Their rendition of João Gilberto's 'Pato', for example, was received with much praise and delight on Instagram, where it garnered 2 million views and became their first proper release.
13. "C'est ca c'est ca" - Lauma - Jazz World [Putumayo: 2025]
    Notes: Based in Québec City, singer-songwriter Lauma graduated from l'École nationale de la chanson, a specialized music school in Canada dedicated to training singer-songwriters in the French-speaking music industry. Lauma's breakthrough came with the 2019 single 'Coeur de Miel',which gained wide recognition and led to her 2020 EP Pixels, produced by Claude Bégin.
14. "Lado a Lado" - Tagua Tagua - single [Wonderwheel: 2025]
    Notes: Brazilian producer and composer Tagua Tagua is set to release his latest album, a 9-track collection, once again in collaboration with Brooklyn's Wonderwheel Recordings. Written, produced, and recorded entirely in his downtown São Paulo apartment, RAIO marks a new chapter in Tagua Tagua's creative journey.
15. "Calor Ahora" - Pachyman - single [ATO: 2025]
    Notes: Pachyman - the musical project of Puerto Rican-born, Los Angeles-based musician Pachy Garcia - shares "Calor Ahora," the latest preview of his new album Another Place (May 23 / ATO Records). "Calor Ahora" - which Pachy describes as "the backbone of the record" is a rippling, minimal dub that incorporates sparkling, alien synthesizers and a koan-like vocal.

    Notes: On Wednesday March 19th 2025, Zamrock legends WITCH return with their new single "Queenless King" alongside the announcement of their UK/EU/North American tour dates and new album, SOGOLO, out June 13th 2025 on Partisan Records. Its name derived from the word in Zambian dialect for 'future', the album is a sonic victory lap for a band who once seemed lost to history.
17. "Haydar Haydar" - Ozan Baysal - Tel ve Ten [ARC: 2025]
    Notes: Tel ve Ten translates to String and Skin, a simple term that encapsulates the complex art of selpe - an ancient Anatolian baglama playing style that takes centre stage in this album. Rooted in the pastoral-nomadic cultures of the Middle East and Central Asia, selpe has evolved over centuries. Yet, its core techniques, such as parmak vurma (finger tapping), tel çekme (plucking), and pençe (strumming), remain integral and serve as the foundation on which Ozan Baysal builds a triumphant debut on the world scene.
18. "Bye Bye" - Alsarah & the Nubatones - Seasons of the Road [Alsarah & the Nubatones: 2025]
    Notes: Alsarah & the Nubatones have self-released their third studio album, Mawasim Altariq (Seasons of the Road).
