Circus Mind – Joy Machine (Outhouse): “CIRCUS MIND is a New York-based rock outfit and the brainchild of ringleader Mark Rechler. The band is entering their twentieth year and are soon to release their third album JOY MACHINE, a fresh explosion of sounds and flavors of the ’70s rock era with a modern twist. Like a three-ring circus, the band can slide seamlessly between rock, funk, and swampy N’awlins grooves, all while referencing some of the best bands of that era with infectious hooks that get stuck in your ear hole. JOY MACHINE releases May 21, 2021, and also features Nels Cline, Marc Ribot, Ivan Neville, Walter Wolfman Washington, Scott Metzger, and more…. CIRCUS MIND’s members are diverse in their influences as well as their playing. Lead vocalist, songwriter, keyboardist, and bandleader Mark Rechler plays in multiple bands (such as Falling Water), and has played, toured, and recorded with members of The Meters, The Neville Brothers, The Radiators, Soulive, The Brandon “Taz” Niederauer Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan Neville, and more. Spending five years in New Orleans studying music and architecture helped influence his style and direction, and he always keeps his focus on the hook to keep his listeners wanting more and humming his tunes all day. Bassist Chris Crosby has a serious case of spider-fingers and can solo as beautifully as any guitarist…Guitarist David Berg is rooted in jazz, reggae, and bluegrass. The drummer is Dan Roth.” (https://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwmusic/article/Circus-Mind-Will-Release-New-Album-Joy-Machine-20210426) Click here to listen to the opening song “Are You Ready”.

Eddie 9V – Little Black Flies (Ruf): “With ‘Little Black Flies,’ there’s a sense of an artist coming full circle, and at the same time coming of age, the kid who once loitered outside the clubs of Atlanta now leading some of Georgia’s greatest players into the studio. Indeed, these recordings gave much-needed catharsis to the musicians who created them. But perhaps Eddie’s ultimate aim is to pass that spirit on to everyone who hears the record. “It makes my day to please someone after they work all day,” he says. “My job is to make them smile and let the music make them forget – or remember.” (https://eddie9v.bandcamp.com/album/little-black-flies) It does seem that Eddie 9V has sifted through past styles to signal where he is now, avoiding the over rock style and when he is on, he is in the bullseye! In fact, this is a certified Professor Bebop “Wax Devoid of Cracks”! Click here to listen to songs on this release twice and you will feel it.

Billy F Gibbons – Hardware (Concord): “Billy F Gibbons has announced details of his third solo album, to be titled Hardware…. Guns ‘N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver and The Cult drummer Sorum also plays on the album as part of a core band featuring guitarist Austin Hanks. It’s the same musical backbone that starred on Gibbons’ second solo release for Concord, The Big Bad Blues, which came out in 2018 and won the Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Award… Eleven of its twelve songs were written by Gibbons, Sorum, Fiorentino and Shlosser. The one exception is “Hey Baby, Que Paso,” first recorded by the Texas Tornados for their 1990 album Los Texas Tornados…. “We holed up in the desert for a few weeks in the heat of the summer and that in itself was pretty intense,” Gibbons concludes. “To let off steam we just ‘let it rock’ and that’s what Hardware is really all about. For the most part, it’s a raging rocker but always mindful of the desert’s implicit mystery.” (https://billygibbons.com/portfolio/items/hardware/) Click here to listen to “She’s On Fire” from this release.

Mosquito Hawks – Some Kinda Blues (Tramp): “Deep Blues EP Some Kinda Blues by the Mosquito Hawks is the fruit of a one-off early morning session in a practice room at the Seattle Drum School in 2010 featuring luminaries from the Seattle funk community including fiery guitar phenom Jabrille “Jimmy James” Williams of Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio renown, versatile drummer Jens Gunnoe and dynamic bass player Bob Lovelace. Rounding out the horn section is longtime friend and collaborator Thomas Deakin, who’s singular tenor tone will be familiar to owners of the Space Dream and Mystery Road records. A tantalizing glimpse of the session was released by Tramp as a single under the name T.D. & The Jimmy James 3 on the extremely limited edition Mosquitohawk imprint, but this EP offers us time to appreciate the transformative alchemy of the session in its entirety. The new EP makes room for highlights that just couldn’t have been contained on one 45, such as the remaining 7 minutes of brutal jamming of Mosquito Eater, the New Orleans street party shout of Hydrangea and the exalted kind of blues of Some Kinda Blues.” (https://tramprecords.bandcamp.com/album/some-kinda-blues) Click here to listen to the songs on this release.

Gary Moore – How Blue Can You Get (Provogue): “Provogue will be releasing a new album, featuring previously unreleased material, from the iconic blues-rock master Gary Moore. How Blue Can You Get will be released on 30 April. This month marks ten years since the tragic passing of the iconic Northern Irish musician and singer-songwriter. He left behind, not only an incredibly formidable back catalogue of music from his esteemed solo career, Thin Lizzy, Skid Row, Colosseum II and more, but also a legacy matched by few others. Venturing deep into the Moore family archives, some previously unheard and unreleased deep cuts and alternative versions surfaced to accentuate the beguiling mastery of one of blues’ finest modern exponents. Amongst the songs are unheard and unreleased Moore originals – “In My Dreams,” a lusciously glorious slow-moving ballad with every note and bend weeping as Moore pours out his heart along with the stunningly melancholic “Looking At Your Picture”…. As the album of these unearthed gems begins to see the light of day, it highlights Moore’s depth and complexity and how his music has touched so many people. Finally, reflecting Marsden remembers, “We grew up in the business together, and he eventually became a major solo star. I wasn’t remotely surprised, of course, as his playing was so astonishing, a great showman and performer.” (https://bluesmatters.com/gary-moore-releases-new-album-how-blue-can-you-get/) Click here and scroll way down to listen to samples of the songs on this release.
