John Williams: 60 Years of Great Themes

Film music sets the mood and helps elicit the emotional responses that make a good movie a great movie. Each week on CharlottesvilleClassical.org, The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour takes a listen to music from the wide world of film scores.

Jaws (1976)

This week the spotlight is on John Williams. Just the mention of the name is enough to bring several memorable melodies to mind. The many themes that Williams has composed during his long career have transcended mere musical cues – they’ve become shorthand for characters and emotions.

A feeling of dread and danger? Cue the title theme for “Jaws.” Need some heroic uplift? Turn up “The Raiders March.” The list goes on.

This week on The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour we’ll dive into some of John Williams’ greatest themes, with music from Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and much more. Join us for “John Williams: 60 Years of Great Themes.”

Produced and hosted by Ken Nail, The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour airs on Charlottesvilleclassical.org every Thursday at 9 AM and 6 PM, plus Saturdays at Noon. Visit our Facebook page, or contact Ken on Twitter at @ken_classical.
