“Woody Guthrie’s American Song” Cast stops by WTJU, June 30

The entire cast of Woody Guthrie’s American Song will stop by WTJU this Friday, June 30, at 4 to celebrate their Heritage Theatre Festival musical kicking off that same evening at UVA’s Culbreth Theatre.  The musical will run each evening through Saturday, July 8, with two matinee performances instead on July 4 and 8.  There will even be a complimentary cookout following the Independence Day performance. (Details)

America’s iconic troubadour comes to life in this exuberant celebration of the songs he wrote and the life he lived. Guthrie’s heartfelt anthems, which imagined “there’s a better world a-coming,” offered hope during depression era America and continue to inspire hope today.   Michael Clem, Jonathan Elliott Coursey, Deandra Irving, Alisa Ledyard, and Gregory Jon Phelps make up the cast, with a full band joining them on stage as well.
