Rick Faulkner

In town for a performance for The Charlottesville Jazz Society, former Charlottesville residents Jessica Valiente and Rick Faulkner will talk with Ann Porotti about their music and upcoming concert. Jessica Valiente plays flute and percussion and Rick Faulkner plays trombone, euphonium and harmonica in the New York City-based group Los Mas Valientes.

Los Más Valientes was formed in 1995 by Jessica Valiente. The group brings together some of today’s finest Latin musicians. Collectively, the band’s resume reads like a who’s-who of New York’s jazz and Latin music scene. Taking its name from its leader, Brooklyn-born flutist Jessica Valiente, Los Más Valientes plays original Latin jazz compositions as well as innovative arrangements of Latin jazz standards. On the other hand, if it’s dancing you want, Los Más Valientes can deliver; they play Latin dance music in the classic tradition of the Cachao descargas, Fania All-Stars, Alegre All-stars, and all the legendary charanga bands.

For their Charlottesville performance that night at 7 pm at The Millmont Grille, Jessica and Rick will be joined by our local greats Robert Jospe (drums), Pete Spaar (bass), and Bob Hallahan (piano).
