Traditional folk and roots musician Maya Lerman will stop by Sunset Road this Friday for a visit with guest host Lonesome George.  In between some live tunes, she will talk about her Kickstarter campaign for her debut CD, "Take This Song With You".  Accompanying Maya will be Ben Hernandez on mandolin.

Maya is a singer and guitar player, originally from the Washington, DC area, and now living in Charlottesville, Virginia. Since a very early age, she has been an active part of the American folk and roots music community. Her passion for this music has inspired her to travel the country to participate in music camps, conventions, and festivals as well as to pursue a career in archiving music. Her warm yet powerful country singing appears on the albums of Joe Walsh, Ashleigh Caudill, and Nate Leath.

Maya is working on her first full-length record, which she is recording in Lafayette, Louisiana, with a great cast of musicians—members of the Red Stick Ramblers/The Revelers, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, as well as other great players and singers from the roots music community. The album will have a mix of songs from the old-time, blues, and country traditions, as well as few original songs. Maya's interpretation of the songs is unique, but with a great respect for the musical traditions. Her Kickstarter project is live and she's been selected on Kickstarter's staff picks page, in which staff features creative and inspiring projects.
