UVa Music Department Faculty Member
on Portrait of the Artist
Wednesday March 14, 2012, 5pm
The University of Virginia Music Department’s highly acclaimed and honored composer, sound artist and faculty member Judith Shatin has yet another honor to her credit: 2012 Virginia Women in History honoree. The Library of Virginia celebrates women’s accomplishments in all walks of life during March, National Women’s History Month. Statewide activities include learning activities tied to the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs), and a traveling exhibition. The annual project culminates with an event recognizing the honorees on 03/29/12 at 06:00 PM at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. Of the eight women honored this year, Ms. Shatin is one of only two living recipients!
Just returning from the Women Composer’s Festival of Hartford, where she was composer in residence, Ms. Shatin sits down with Ann Porotti for an in-depth conversation to discuss the festival, the Women in History honor, and other recent and upcoming events. Throughout, Ann explores and shares Ms. Shatin’s work as the featured artist on Portrait of the Artist.
