Mike D'antoni

Musical instructor Mike D'Antoni will bring some of his students in to play on Tell Us A Tale. An accomplished musician himself, D'Antoni will also perform a few pieces. This is the second of an ongoing series focusing on local music teachers and their students.

Mike D'Antoni grew up in New Orleans, where he performed in many musical combos, including Dixieland, Jazz, Rock, and Pop bands. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Therapy, from the University of New Orleans, and has taught guitar, bass guitar, piano, ukulele, violin/fiddle, mandolin, banjo, clarinet and recorder for 19 years in Charlottesville.

Here in Virginia, Mike has has played and continues to play music regularly, belonging to "Abbey Road," a Beatles retrospective band, and "sitting in" with different local combos. He also plays classical guitar for weddings, and sings, while accompanying himself, for festive events.

No stranger to the recording studio, Mike has had numerous recording dates with a variety of singers and musical groups, including former Kingston Trio singer/songwriter John Stewart.

Mike is now teaching full-time at Specialty Guitars Plus, a music store in Charlottesville, and has 50 private students.
